TAWILA, SUDAN – Rana Basharat Ali Khan, Chairman of the International Human Rights Movement, today issued a powerful condemnation of the world’s failure to act as a man-made famine and systematic atrocities threaten to annihilate entire communities in Sudan’s Darfur region. The warning follows a new, dire alert from United Nations humanitarian officials who describe a “catastrophic” and “combustible situation” in Tawila, a major displacement hub where 600,000 people are trapped. The crisis is emblematic of a wider collapse across Sudan, where nearly 12 million people have been displaced, creating the largest crisis of its kind in the world.“We are witnessing a genocide in slow motion, facilitated by global indifference and blocked aid convoys,” stated Chairman Khan. “The systematic siege of El Fasher, the use of starvation as a weapon of war, and the industrial-scale sexual violence amounting to torture are not merely violations of international law; they are a stain on our collective human conscience. The International Human Rights Movement has documented a clear pattern of atrocities intended to terrorize and displace civilian populations.”Recent escalations have seen the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia utilizing long-range drones and building berms to encircle cities, deliberately blocking the movement of civilians and supplies. Credible reports confirm that in late September alone, over 90 civilians were killed in targeted attacks on mosques, markets, and a community kitchen, exacerbating a pre-existing famine.Humanitarian access remains nearly impossible, with convoys facing a labyrinth of frontlines, landmines, and direct targeting. At least 120 aid workers have been killed since the conflict began. Meanwhile, a severe funding shortfall has left the UN’s $4.2 billion humanitarian response plan for Sudan only a quarter funded, crippling the ability to respond.“The world’s silence is complicity. The siege must be lifted, and safe, unhindered humanitarian corridors must be established immediately,” Khan demanded. “The International Human Rights Movement calls on all parties, and specifically the RSF, to cease hostilities, allow civilian evacuations, and guarantee the safe passage of life-saving aid. Atrocities are not inevitable; they are a choice. It is time for the international community to choose action over empty rhetoric before thousands more are massacred.”
