Muhammad Amjad:
Islamabad:Indian Minister for External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, has arrived in Pakistan to attend the 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) summit. This visit marks a significant moment, as it is the first time in nearly a decade that an Indian foreign minister has set foot in Pakistan, underscoring the continued tension between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
The summit, hosted in Islamabad, has seen stringent security measures to ensure smooth proceedings. Jaishankar’s plane landed at an airbase near the capital just before 3:30 PM, where he was welcomed by officials and children who presented him with flowers, as shown on televised footage.
Leaders from around a dozen countries are attending the summit, with the key sessions scheduled for Wednesday. Despite the rare visit, both India and Pakistan have confirmed that no bilateral talks are planned between the two nations during the summit.
